What industry demands - By Commerceshala

Charles Dickens said it and I quote ‘Industry is the soul of business and the keystone of prosperity’. Industry in its most basic sense, is the production of an economic good or service within an economy. The progress of a country’s development is to a great extent determined by the state of its industries. Therefore, the need to fulfil the demands of an industry is of prime importance as everybody wants to excel.

An industry can be quite demanding when it comes to deciding upon the skills required for hiring people, especially so in the case of corporate world. Not only sometimes the list is too exhausting but every once in a while, it tends to be over the top. Academics is no more the sole consideration on which people are judged. Besides the regular qualities like confidence, perseverance, resilience and others, one is required to have critical thinking, decision making ability, complex problem solving skills, quick learning ability and not to forget, out of the box thinking. Least to say, that is one heck of a list. How any one person can have all that, can’t really say. To be a part of any industry, requires a huge amount of hard work and discipline. The ever rising demands really know no bounds. A good business sense is a must in order to successfully be a part of the corporate world because as Andrew Young rightly said ‘Nothing is illegal if a hundred businessmen decide to do it’.

There are industry specific courses/trainings available which would add value to your candidature for a particular industry. Here starts the competition – ‘who has it at the right time will win the race’. Percentages on your CV will definitely work but it won’t open the gates of opportunities. You need to be focused and ready to go ahead and learn the skill required.

The demands differ according to the kind of industry one is heading towards. To understand and acquire all the qualities required, is an achievement in itself. The dictionary is the only place where success comes before work. Therefore, if you want to make it big, well then you have a large amount of work cut out for yourself. There is no such thing as overnight success in the real world, and to be what you want to be, is a tough journey to take on. Successfully being a part of an industry will definitely take its time, but slowly yet surely all goals can be achieved.

PS: Brace yourself, learn something besides books and formulae and you are there.
