Talk by Mr. T.N. Manoharan on How to Prepare for and write CA Exams

Statutory Auditors to Certify Financial Statements Filed in XBRL Format

The statutory auditors of all listed companies and also unlisted firms with a paid-up capital of at least Rs 5 crore or those with turnover of Rs 100 crore and above have more news to cheer about. The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has made it mandatory for all the entities that are required to get their financial statements in XBRL format, to get them certified by their statutory auditors with respect to their correctness before filing them under XBRL mode in the MCA-21 portal.
Earlier, MCA has clarified that the accounts are to be filed in XBRL format information by September 30 for the Financial Year 2010 – 11. The above directive is expected to bring discontentment amongst the companies as they have to pay the auditors twice – once for carrying out regular statutory audit and another for certifying the correctness of their financial statements to be filed under XBRL mode in the MCA portal.

Soon CA firms can have more than 20 partners-courtesy LLP’s

The ICAI is very soon likely to release a set of business rules that will allow chartered accountants (CAs) to form limited liability partnerships (LLPs). An amalgam of partnership firm and company-LLPs were allowed to be set up in India in 2008. Once CA firms are allowed to form LLP’s, they will be in a much stronger position to compete with Global audit houses as they will be able to service a larger clientele, open branches in several cities and also partner with cost accountants, company secretaries and lawyers, and offer multiple services under one roof.
Accounting firms can currently have only
20 partners under the Partnership Act, 1932. These firms work under the principle of collective responsibility, making all partners liable for the wrongdoings of one, but in the case of LLP’s , the CA firm can not only have more than 20 partners , but ‘each partner will be responsible for his or her action solely’ .

Limited Liability Partnerships now eligible for stock exchange memberships

Stock Market regulator, SEBI has announced that Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs) can now apply for Stock Exchange memberships. LLPs are a coalition of partnership firm and a company; it provides benefits of limited liability while allowing its members the flexibility of organising their internal structure as a partnership firm. Currently there are about 5,501 registered LLPs in India.
